Hi! My name is E'treea Tropp and I am the owner and designer of Coffy Crochet, a special collection of unique, hand crafted knit and crochet jewelry and fashion accessories.

Ok, I’m ready for spring…

I’m really feeling the need to shed the dreariness of winter. Normally in Mobile its around 78 degrees in the shade by now and I’m in shorts, t-shirts and flip flops. This year old man winter is not letting go so easy….

So I have been busy crocheting beaded wrap bracelets. They are so much fun and really durable! My two year old has tried her best to stretch the daylights out of one that I made for myself and all she got was frustrated! Anyway, they are fun to make and can be used for all kinds of adornment purposes – love em’! Here are some pics from my summer collection –

Back in action

So I guess I kind of dropped off the planet for a while. Life can really catch you by the leg and and leave you wondering why you can’t get anywhere. However, like the fabled phoenix bird, I have risen up out of the ashes and am back in the game.

My first order of business was tending to my practically abandoned etsy shop – It was just really depressing to keep listing stuff and not see any action, but all the changes they have going on there have inspired me to give it another go. I’ve decided to focus on scarves and wrist warmers this time around and see what gives. I’ve also decided to focus more on knitting – It seems that people are more interested in crochet patterns than finished products (I’d like to sell patterns, but don’t have a clue how to start that up…)or is it my imagination? Anyway, the sticks have been calling me, so I guess its time to focus on that. But, whether people want it or not I love to crochet so that will always be in my collections…
So with that said here are some pieces from Fall/winter 2011 –

Getting ready!

So tonight is the premiere of the new season of project runway and I have all my supplies ready:
1. my latest project on the hook
2. popcorn – no butter or salt (joyless I know, but I need clean fingers to work!)
3. one or both of my non – sleeping children
4. Popcorn with salt and lots of butter (there is no way I can work on anything with my rambunctious munchkins flanking me on either side of the couch so I might as well enjoy my greasy popcorn…)

I just love the drama of this show – the impossible time constraints (design a couture dress with stuff from a hardware store in 10 minutes!…), the clash of personalities and the inevitable elimination at the end of each show (was it fair?). The contestants on this show have my utmost respect – would you be willing to bare yourself as an artist on national TV and work and live with people you might cross the street to get away from, then be told that the garment you just slaved over and really love is a total piece of crap? I couldn’t do it. I mean really – these people whip up original patterns in almost minutes and manage to create garments that in the real world would require a team of at least 10 people! As a former dress shop owner I know how hard it is to create garments that are original, wearable, commercial, and pretty in a tight time frame – God bless these people and I wish them all luck!

Meanwhile here a some more hats –

The crochet sweater dilemma…

It seems that around this time of year I always become very ambitious and decide that this will be the year I design a fall / winter crochet sweater collection. The problem is that crochet fabric is not really conducive to sweater makin’ – unless you use verrrry thin yarn – say lace weight for instance – you may end up with an unwearable beast that:
1. is heavy as lead
2. so bulky you can’t wear anything over it
3. a total money suck – you need lot’s of yarn for a sweater…
4. becomes a size headache – will I do custom? Just make one size? Sigh….
5. and last but not least, is so hot you feel like you are being punished each time you convince yourself to wear it.
Oh well, I’ll figure it out…

Meanwhile, here is the first piece of my lace t-shirt collection –

Wait…what?!!

So I know this is old news now, but i’m kind of slow on the draw with these things – I’m sitting at my kitchen table threading some beads and watching my kids fight over a little piece of plastic something that neither of them really wants while watching that annoying Nancy Grace (please don’t ask why…) and I hear the verdict for the Anthony trial and I thought I had gone deaf for a moment – NOT GUILTY! Seriously! No, surly I heard that wrong. I’ve been listening to really loud music lately and I figured I must have busted an eardrum or something. I have to admit that I have barely been following the details of this trial because its just to horrifying to fathom, but from the little I’ve absorbed (mostly unwillingly) I was sure that she would be found guilty, then hung, shot, drowned, reanimated and then beheaded. But I guess not. Wow…

Meanwhile I know its hot as the devils balls almost everywhere state side, but here are some hats I just re-shot for my fall winter collection…

Summer fun…

So, my self imposed two week break from crafting was a bust – I lasted about a day before my fingers started itching and I heard little voices coming from my yarn bins calling me to make something (my husband was like “who are you talking to?”). So in between backyard water sports with the kids and combating prehistoric, man-eating mosquitoes, I wiped the curtain of sweat from my brow and made these fun pieces –

Just wanna chill…

I officially have craft related attention deficit disorder induced by beautiful blue skies, over flowing ice cream cones, screaming happy kids, and beautiful warm breezes…
I must have started and torn apart and started and torn apart again the same cotton scarf over ten times. But of course before I did that I threaded some beads, crocheted half a hat, started and abandoned sewing a tote bag and had the nerve to pull out greeting card making stuff(hey – the holiday’s are right around the corner…)!
At this point I think I will give my self a little two week crafting vaca and focus on eating fish tacos, guzzling pink lemonade, chasing the kids with a super soaker and enjoy some good ole’ meditation…

Grateful…

So, thankfully we managed to avoid experiencing any tornadoes or massive hurricanes here in Mobile – they were close, lots of scary wind and rain, but they passed us by. My heart goes out to those families in North Carolina, Florida, Missouri and Massachusetts who suffered the wrath of these deadly natural forces. Every day is a gift and should be treated as such…

I know this little guy is glad that’s over!
